Default 1929 Model A Instrument Panel Screw Attachment

I have the 10/32 x 1/2" screws that are required to attach the instrument panel. However, there is something missing on the gas tank that the lower screws should screw into. I have researched but can't figure out what is required. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards, Les

There should be two D nuts. Could you post a picture?

The "Two D Nuts" are missing. There are two slots/cut outs in the gas tank where the "D" nuts would fit/mount in to. Unable to find any replacement hardware in vendor catalogs to attach the instrument panel except the 10-32 x 1/2" screws. Does anyone have 2 extra that they would sell/send me? I have a milling machine and could possibly make something that would work......have no drawing or idea what they look like. I would like to use the correct hardware that is used with the two lower attachment screws if possible.

Yes ,the D nuts wouldn't be hard to make, The front profile would look like the letter D. I have purchase these D nuts before, I just looked at Brattons catalogue,Pg 165, They call them clinch nuts,#36510 10/32 .35 cents each.

Replacement screws that I bought have smaller heads than the originals and don't look quite right, fwiw.

There are parts place that sell the #10 screws with #8 size heads. I can't remember were I bought mine, but I believe they are still available. SeaSlugs is correct, repro instrument panels lower screw holes aren't made correctly, or at least in the past they weren't. Beware if you are trying to use a repro instrument panel.

BTW, D nuts need to be clinched (hammered) in place. However on the instrument, it would be very hard to clinch the D nuts. I think you could probably J-B Weld them in place.

Depending what dash original panel you are using there could be two different size screw heads. I am not sure what size head is common for the reproduction. Most model a suppliers do carry the clinch nuts. They are easy to install by backing with a heavy piece of metal and pean over with a ball pean hammer. Norm
