Re: What year is this Pickup 40-47 ?
1GC would make it a -41 6 cylinder 1/2ton if i´m not having a total brainfart...
A pic of the vehicle front would easily identify a -41 pickup which is a very nice model. |

Re: What year is this Pickup 40-47 ?
There's a big difference in the frames between '41 and '42-47. Also a big difference in the front end sheetmetal. The '41 front end looks more like a '40 front end. '41 was the last year for the transverse springs front and back. '42-47 had parallel leaf springs front and back. I don't recall ever seeing a frame # on a '41 which started with 1GC.

Re: What year is this Pickup 40-47 ?
The 6-cylinder for Commercials was delayed in 1941 due to the frame still being from the 1940 design. They finally added the new front cross member that was redesigned to work with that frame mid year. This is why the production figures are low for the G-series pickups in 41. The OPs pickup is from the 1942 batch that would be the first of the jail bar type. Civilian production was halted early in 1942 so the figures are low for them too.
That list from Mac VPs site doesn't include the 9N series commercials. |

Your number correlates to 42 in the chart, What front spring(s) do you have, transverse or parallel? Last edited by hotrodA; 02-13-2020 at 07:51 PM. |

Interesting on the frame #. My '41 had the frame ID number start with 18-*******, but had the deep crossmember. The fuel line pulled out of the passenger side of the tank. The original ownership certificate had an ID# on it that started with 9N which led me to believe it was a 4 cylinder at the beginning. California in the early days used the engine # for the ID.
