Default Block Question

Today I replaced the manifold on my 1929 Tudor with an Auto-Lite one (a little heat is wecome in WI). As I was cleaning the block around the ports I found a B stamped between the middle 2 ports, any idea what this is about?

There is always an A side and a B side. How do you think Ford could just hire off the street and get the manifolds on the proper side?

Brent,
Years ago, while waiting for our first Jaguar MK. 10 to arrive, the factory sales brochures arrived, showing a pic of the engine with the carbs on the L/H side!! I surmise that someone flipped the negative. Those brochures are probably a "collector's" item by now. Bill W.
