Radiator apron screws and fender holes.
I have a 1929 Coupe and I am trying to re-attach the front fenders, new hood shelf and new radiator apron. I am puzzled about the holes in the fender....the first hole nests the oval-headed screw fine. The second hole has a raised bracket (?) that is about 1/4 inch above the hole in the fender. Is there supposed to be something inside that bracket to keep it from collapsing when the screw is tightened? On both fenders, that bracket was partially pulled down toward the fender. I can't figure out what the purpose is for that raised piece of metal.

Re: Radiator apron screws and fender holes.
There are wooden spacer blocks under the finish rail. I believe that they are where the hood hold downs are, been about 30 years since last wrestled with these. Also there are at least 2 types of finish rail - 28 vs. 29 ? Its all in the book with charts and pictures.

Re: Radiator apron screws and fender holes.
That raised "bracket" is there to be a spacer between the hood shelf and fender. Unless yours are flattened or broken off, they should mate up to the underside of the shelf. No need to worry that by tightening the screws, you are going to collapse it.
