Stromberg 97-insulator question
This is my first rodeo with downdraft carb. I understand the need to run insulator between carb and manifold. My question is does the phenolic spacer still require the use of carb gasket between carb and spacer? Between spacer and manifold? Both? Neither?

Re: Stromberg 97-insulator question
Since you haven't received any related assistance to your question, I
listed two company that sells the phenolic spacers one states it is not necessary but they recommend installing the gaskets on both sides of the phenolic spacers. They are referencing a manifold to engine block spacer but I believe the same applies to carb spacers. The other company sells two gaskets with the spacers. I would install the gaskets if anything just because of the added insulation with the two gaskets. They are cheap. Not suggesting the diet pill is also a good heads up. A good fight can ruin a day more than a hard start condition! https://www.grimmspeed.com/phenolic-...i-lgt-fxt-8mm/ https://www.jegs.com/c/Fuel-Carbs-In...10289/10002/-1 I am thinking of putting spacers on my 94s. I have hard start hot issues. If it works or does not work for you please post your results. Regards Last edited by RandyMettler; 02-16-2019 at 01:35 PM. |

Re: Stromberg 97-insulator question
The "Stromberg 97" was what caught my eye. The question asked was certainly answered but the brand name likely indicates an aftermarket carb. Ford only used Stromberg carbs for a few years before going to the Holley 94 & later models. Ford didn't use spacers as a general rule but some folks used them to prevent vapor lock during warmer times of the year and in warmer climates. Now days, only the winter stock fuels cause vapor lock when the weather goes through sudden warming spells. Winter stock fuel is better for cold starts but vapor locks easily during warm spells.
A spacer certainly won't hurt a thing whether it's a Holly 94 or a Stromberg 97. |

Re: Stromberg 97-insulator question
So my 55 292 has 3 94's. All three would get so hot after a shut down in the summer, they would boil the fuel in the float bowl, then flooding the engine so a quick re-start would be an issue. I went with the 1/2" phenolic spacers on all 3 carbs, which solved my problem completely. Lots are available on eBay for around $30. with 2 gaskets
