Re: Panel fabrication
I have a big thick top steel table that I set my bucks up on and about a dozen old chisels formed in differnent shapes to do the pounding. I had to make my own bead forms.
I had to learn how to do this to make floor parts for my 1951 Mercury cars. If I had unlimited funds, I'd have patterns cut from steel plate on a cutting table like Paul Bradley did. If a person can start in the center of those patterns and work out with locating pins to hold the steel, they could be finished quicker but it's still a lot of work and some welding is always necessary where deep drawn stuff is to be replicated. It would cost a fortune to set up a 250 ton press and make dies for it. I doubt if my funds would ever be that unlimited. Pounding them out can be the only way to do them with limited resources and Ted's pan looks pretty damn good. |

Re: Panel fabrication
I am constantly impressed with the skills and ingenuity in the old car community. Quite remarkable.
