Default Old transmission..... New transmission

Last month I went to back into the driveway and "something" broke and I had to go around the block to get her parked...... no reverse.
Several weeks later I'm up and running again. Freshly rebuilt 3 speed light duty installed.... also have a spare trans now, courtesy of a 'barner in Colorado.
The original trans has some issues, as you can see from the photos.
Haven't torn it down but did find a couple of gear teeth in the magnetic drain plug. And a few loose in the bottom of the trans. The internals do not look good, to say the least. Case is cracked- I imagine that loose bits got between meshing teeth.

I guess the bright side is that I'm now dealing with one less item leaking on the driveway..... first it was the differential, now the transmission. And I'll be rebuilding the 8BA in 2020. That should finally eliminate the last of the leaks.

Last photo shows a cool 90-degree speedo cable adapter I'm running at the transmission. Greatly reduces that outrageous cable loop you have otherwise.....

Your driveshaft slip yoke seems to be oddly further out of the transmission than would seem normal. Is that the original yoke?

Exactly. The severely chipped teeth on the rear side of the sliding gear and the cracked case at the rear are clear evidence.

It's possible the truck was moving forward but there wasn't any gusto involved,
my company vehicle was parked about 3 feet away in front of me at the time
I was moving the lever into reverse.....

That's about where mine is with a 9" rear axle. I've been putting off having a new driveshaft that is 1/2 - 3/4" longer made. The normal distance from the face of the rear seal to the end of the splined section is about 1-3/8" on F-1's.

'48 -- does that angle adapter change the ratio? Source?

That 1st/reverse slider didn't get that way from grinding into reverse on just ONE occasion. DD

Just pulled, cleaned, re-lubed and re-installed the speedo cable.
So nice to no longer have the speedometer needle "wagging"
5 mph at every spot on the dial....

Well next is the engine. That's the program for 2020.
