Greyhound shipping advice offered
I had to ship a Model T door to Colorado to someone who wanted it. I checked FedEx (outrageously expensive), Fastenal (no empty trucks going there) and Greyhound. I packed it up and took it to Greyhound. Easy to set up on line and cheaper than taking it there and figuring out once you get there.
I chose the location closest to the buyer for convenience's sake. Turns out that that location is not always staffed, so there was no one to leave it with and the buyer was not notified that it was arriving, so it was not left there. He is still trying to track it down to get it delivered. Something I never would have thought of. I figured that it was worth sharing my experience. |

Re: Greyhound shipping advice offered
I too have had mixed results with Greyhound...parts left at distant terminals for days with no tracing available, no notice upon arrival, etc.
I shifted my shipping of odd parts (mounted tires, fenders, deck lids) to Fastenal 10 years ago and my problems ended. Very good service and I have never had any delivery issues. Fastenal has over 2000 stores across the country, so there is usually a site nearby to the seller/ buyer, but the best feature is that the buyer pays the freight when he picks it up, no hassle for the seller...he just drops it off at the store and that's the end of it for him. Buyer pays upon pickup. I have used Fastenal 10-15 times at least and all were good transactions. |

Re: Greyhound shipping advice offered
When I tried to schedule Fastenal, the web site said no space available. Maybe I should have called them.

Re: Greyhound shipping advice offered
on 20 shipments with Greyhound- 3 were stolen, lost or whatever.
they only allow 300 of insurance and I recommend that. If the item is worth much more, use Fastenal and yes, you need to get them on the phone. My Fastenal store has horrible employees that dont want to be bothered, but from what I have heard on the Barn, most locations are good. |

Re: Greyhound shipping advice offered
Fastenal has trucks delivering store stock all over the U.S.
They will take on private shipments on a "space available" arrangement. I have had doors sent from CA to NC in 4 days, and then also it took 10 days to get a wheel from CT to NC, just depends on the "space available" on their trucks. If you are patient, the savings are good compared to UPS, Greyhound, etc. and they handle the goods with care...just my experience. Last edited by d.; 05-29-2019 at 05:58 PM. Reason: mis spelled |

I've used Fastenal for engines, put them on a pallet, deliver to store and forget it. No problems and cheap way to ship.

Re: Greyhound shipping advice offered
Greyhound is pretty cheap to ship items but don't offer any tracking or estimate of arrival date or time. I used them a few years ago to ship a 1930 cowl from Montana to Wisconsin. It took several weeks but came undamaged.

Re: Greyhound shipping advice offered
Do understand that Fastenal does not offer the LTL service to all their locations because in some locations, they use outside carriers to move their stock.
