What's your favorite 1954 Ford?
I'm thinking of buying a Ford that's my age. What's your favorite 1954 model? Pictures please.

I would go for a Crestline Tudor sedan. The sedan, because they always have better door operation than the Hardtops. The Crestline, because the trim looks great.
Mu high school car was a '54 Mainline. A sleeper with a hot 312. |

Re: What's your favorite 1954 Ford?
That pic Kultulz recently posted of the '54 Mainline looked exactly like my High school car, right down to the color. My dad bought it when it was four years old, and I bought it from him a year later.
Six cylinder, three on the tree, and Sea Foam green when I got it. Put in a 272 so I could face my buds at high school. Senior year, got a 312 out of a '56 Merc, and rebuilt it behind the garage, mild cam, milled heads, and a four barrel. I built my own traction master bars, and raced it on the street so much in the next two years that I painted it every six months to keep it a bit less known by the local constabulary. It started out green, and I painted it yellow, then gold, then copper, and finally black. All that time it still had the same 6 cyl trans in it, and I always raced running start to keep it in one piece. Drove it to Ensenada and had it upholstered to look like a '56 Chevy interior. Cost $68. This was in 1959-61, and I beat cars like a 57 pontiac tri power (4 times in a row), 60 Lark 289 four speed, tri 5 chevy's, etc. First car to ever beat me was a 57 Chevy which had cheater slicks and a 4 speed installed. I was running 670-15's. My little brother was 4 years younger, and by the time he street raced, (64-66) guys were bringing new cars like 409's, 413's, etc, and some even came on trailers. He had a '58 Vette, with 4:88's, and a straight front axle. Different era all together. |

Re: What's your favorite 1954 Ford?
Of the '52-53-54 series, the 2-dr hardtops look the best. I'd give my left arm for a '52, 53, 54 or 55 Lincoln Cosmo or Capri 2-dr hardtop with 317/4-spd hydromatic, PS, PW, pwr seat, dual exhaust. The 52,53,54 Merc hardtops are similar to the Linc and Ford also, except the 52-53 Fords and Mercs had flathead engines.

Club Coupe. I like the roofline better than the Tudor. Plus they're pretty rare.

It's hard to decide between a Sunliner, Skyliner or a Victoria. Since the Sunliner and Skyliner are out of my price range, I have a Victoria (avatar car)

Here is what was offered in the Customline and Crestline range of cars for 1954. I love 54 Fords, so you have made a great year to pick from. |

Re: What's your favorite 1954 Ford?
Lanny, Thanks for posting these pictures of these great looking 54 Fords. For some reason, 1954 Fords appear to be overlooked. They don't fit in with the Early Ford V8 Club who specialize in Flatheads - except in Australia, Canada and New Zealand as in these countries, the Flathead was carried over in 1954. While they are accepted in the Crown Victoria Association because of the Glass Top Skyliners, they are not the main attraction, as the 55 and 56 models take that spot. Regardless, I think that they are one smart looking car, regardless of body style. |

Re: What's your favorite 1954 Ford?
I know this is getting off of the topic a little bit, but did the '54 Fords that kept the flathead V8 (Canada/New Zealand) also still have the '53 type frame with king pin front suspension instead of the new ball joint suspension like USA cars ??
