Default Pinstriping Wheels

Spent Saturday putting pinstrips on a set of 39 Zephyr wheels. They have three stripes and I couldnt figure out exactly how to do this so this is what I came up with. Not the only way to do it but it worked very well for me.I took an old front spindle and hub assembly from a 40 Ford I had laying around and clamped it in the vise via the arm where the tie rod attaches so the drum faced straight up. I then unscrewed the dust cap and drilled a 1/8" hole in the center then drilled another 1/8" hole in the center of the spindle itself about 1/8" deep. I then bent a piece of 1/8" rod at an angle so it would hang out over the wheel then atteached my Beugler striping tool to the rod. Loaded with paint then turn the wheel and hold the tool to the wheel. Then loosten the clamp on the tool and slid it in or out for the next stripe. Took about an hour to do 4 wheels.

Ken, they look super! I was trying to figure out a way to pinstripe the wheels on our '39 LZ, think I try your method.

Ken,,I know I'm just restating what the others said but I'm impressed.I've had one of those pin-stripers in my tool box for years and I have used it once or twice.....I'm going to copy your setup give it a try on an extra set of wheels I have..Back in the 70s I used my "potters wheel" and a dagger brush to do a set..But I like your method...Once again they look great..Thanks for sharing..Carl

I'd call that a pretty productive session! Great photos to go with the story. The wheels really came out looking sharp, maybe one day I'll see the Zephyr in person at one of the meets.

I'm such a rube, I've never seen a striper like that. More info here: http://www.beugler.com/

Great job ken. Those striping wheels are great. I am about to put a pin stripe on my 35 PU when the weather gets a little warmer, just after I get my Southwind in. LOL

Ken - excellent work, and a great idea of using the stripping tool.
My son, does pinstripping and he uses a wheel bubble balancer and the Beugler tool or brush.
He also will do the strip on the car - jack up the wheel, spin it and use a brush,
plus a steady hand.

I believe they recomend "One-Shot" This is the paint that pin stripers use,it doesn't dry fast. Phil
