Default !939 ford speedometer

My 39 ford deluxe original speedometer hooked to original engine and transmission does not work. I plan on checking the cable. Any other areas that could be the problem??? Jon Laing

The cable is the usual suspect. Next, check the speedometer head itself. If both of those are functioning, the only things remaining are the drive gear within the torque tube and driven gear, bolted to the torque tube. It is rare but not unheard of for one or both of these to fail. Fortunately, usually the driven gear fails before the drive gear.
