30 standard roadster mirror

Is there an easy way to put a stanchion mirror on a 30 Standard roadster? I really do not want to pull the liner. Thanks.

I have one on each side. They screw into the holes left when you remove the lower machine screw. Then you lock the nut provided against the stanchion. They stay tight. Not sure if you can see enough in my avatar.

Springer pete, did you retap the lower machine screw to 11/16-20 to match the 30-31 mirror? My lower machine screw is 3/8 nf. A picture would be wonderful I cannot see it from your avatar. Thanks for the idea.

Yes Bob, that is the mirror I have, but with a 11/16 -20 thread on the mirror, I cannot thread it into my stanchion screw which is 3/8 nf thread. Do I have to redrill and tap the stanchion ram horn or is there a different way. I see the 28-9 mirror has a 5/16 nf thread and that would be too small.

Bratton's and Snyder's catalog say the 30-31 mirror is 7/16-20 thread.

I don't like to alter the car so I wouldn't drill oversize but if it doesn't bother
you that would be the easiest way to go I think. The catalogs show the stanchion screws as 5/16". The ones on my 1930 OCPU are 3/8-16 so I think they must have stripped out at some time. I was thinking take the lower wing nut off and putting a coupling nut there. Get a 3/8-24 coupling nut and drill and tap one end for the mirror 7/16-20. You could cut the nut as short as possible so it would look better.

No, I did not re tap the threads, it fits just fine. However, I really do not know if the stanchions are '29. They look and fit fine and were already on the car.

I have the same issue, mirror and question for my 30 Standard. Two interesting things, my stanchions are chrome, not sure Standards came that way, and I see by one comment Brattons at least, refers to the mirror as for a Deluxe. Still thinking about what I am going to do...

My stanchions are stainless steel. I believe that all standard open cars came with stainless stanchions. I went ahead and drilled and tapped the top sub stanchion screw for 7/16-20 and used the deluxe mirror. It has the same problem as mirrors on Deluxe roadsters...the mirror does not quite adjust far enough to see straight back. This may be a problem only with repo mirrors. Today I will heat and bend the stainless post to get the right angle to see straight back.
