Default steering "Click"

After messing with "Bruce of MN's" radius ball, we also checked his steering. Slop at the steering wheel was OK. But when turning the steering wheel either way a subtle "click" was felt both in the steering wheel and tires. The King pins are tight. Tie rods as well. Something in the steering box cause it?

When you take the weight off the front wheels, jack up front of car, does it still make the same noise?

MMM slight bend in the steering rod rubbing against the spark and throttle rod.

Worm and sector when adjusted right has little or no play at center. Play does increase the further you get off center. Have someone watch the pitman arm when you make it 'click',if it jumps its a loose sector shaft.

It sounds like a combination of something loose (like sector teeth backlash) and something else binding and releasing like a spring. Someone mentioned a bent column for the spring. I'd look at the steering balls for major ovality. The springs and cups will keep them tight, but as they move up and down on the egg shaped ball, they can add some drive force to the steering. If they're bad enough to do this, the wear should be visually apparent.
Also check if the steering rod across the car is rubbing on the fore-aft drag link. Pretty common.

I'll look at all those items. I put in new tie rod end, etc. spring hardware last year and the balls looked good. Thanks to Clem for diagnosing my wheel shudder cause.

With the wheels on the ground, I did check for loose pitman bolt. tight. The tie rod ends were tight as well. Nice coupe!!
