Yes, I am still digging!

When the Closed Cab body was FIRST attached to the Model AA chassis at the beginning of Production, the body attachment holes were in a specific location on the body.

Then Ford decided to put that same body onto a Model A chassis sometime in mid 1928 by adding two more holes to the floor of the body to allow the narrower frame (I guess).

OR...was it the chassis that received the two additional holes for attachment and the body was left as is?

Steve,

The way that I understand it...
The body's MAY have come with 4 holes in the back....BUT the frames were generic to
"A's". On the assembly line, IF it was to be a CCPU,..they would drill by hand the 2 new
holes in the rear ( in the frame)too hold the body to the frame..

I heard the same thing as Dudley, maybe from him as to the assemblers needing to drill 2 holes for the back of the cab as the pickup was assembled on a passenger car frame.

I have a 31" Cab with both holes installed. I thought they drilled the pans before folding them up.

I am pretty sure the 2 holes on each side were punched in the pickup subrails when they were made. The missing rear pickup matching holes are in the frame.

This is an 82-B cab but it shows the two holes.

I also think that the 82-A cabs were supplied with the rear 2 holes on each side for alternate mounting between A and AA. I've also wondered if the earliest 82-A cabs only had 1 rear mounting hole on each side to accommodate the AA frame mounting, but I've never seen one like that, yet.

I suspect your hunch is correct (only one hole on each side), in that the cabs were made only for AA trucks at the beginning.

The 5-25-1928 Indianapolis Service Letter says open cab is now interchangeable on A and AA chassis. So you think the Closed Cab would have been close behind. Still not sure of the CC introduction date.

It is becoming quite interesting working on a time line of the chain of events.
