window channel
I don't know if anyone can help me. I have a 29CCPU and my window channel slips up and down when I roll the window up or down. What is the best way to solve this problem? Thanks in advance,

Re: window channel
there should be a hook on the back side of the channel at the top if that is not there look for a spot up towards the top that has room for a small pop rivet and put one small pop rivet in the channel making the head of the rivet is down in the felt. or get some good glue and glue the felt in place.

Re: window channel
Great piece of engineering is that channel system, to keep it simple they made it difficult.
Just enough glue because one day you may need to remove a glass and the channel needs to pull out a little. I don't have the measurement but there needs to be the correct distance from the hook at the top down to the tag at the other end to make it work right. I hate that idea with a vengeance. Also never been happy with my window glass winding it up and down, there seems to be a point about half way where it kind of drags... |

Re: window channel
Hi fiftyv8: The window drag at the middle maybe to the glass being loose in the channel, at that point. To check when the glass is at that location, try to rock it back and forth. If it moves a lot (1/4") then you made need to place a bit of packing behind the channel. I use a bit of cereal box cardboard, it works well. Sometimes it only takes a couple of layers about 6" long to fix the problem. I have a 30 coupe I have to do the same thing to.

Re: window channel
Great info Tinbasher, yes I will definitely give it a try as what I have now is all new and frustrating me to have a drag problem like that.

taper head screws, they are very small, drill a hole inside the channel and install a screw, the head will bury its self in the fuzz of the channel and wont interfere with the glass as it slides past, pop rivets are ok, but they are bigger and can be a pain to remove |

Re: window channel
I just replaced the drivers side window and felts on my Town Sedan and I had a tight spot. I lubed it a little Graphite Dry Lubricant and it works fine now.

Re: window channel
When Harmon glass cut the windows for the 1930 AA I worked on they gave the corners a small radius plus they gave the upper 3/4" a very slight taper to be sure it didn't snag on the felt liner.

Re: window channel
I know this is an old thread now, but with a little tweeking here and there, I discovered that my window channel wows were being caused by my metal clamping channel needing a little extra pinching in the vice and firmer hammering to the glass.
Secondly, it would seem the bottom corner of my glass has been catching one of the small rivets used to attach the lower hook device to the sliding channel. I have since fixed the drivers door by using a flat punch and hitting the rivet a few times. I am now working on the other door which displays the same symptoms. I note the previous poster Tom was probably spot on when mentioning the radius of the lower corners. Turns out my lower corners have a radius but so small it hardly counts. So if you have plans to do this install in the future beware of the little pitfalls. Thanks again to all who posted their ideas... Russ. |
