Default Rumble seat step plates- round or square for 1929

Does anyone know when the rumble seat step plates switched from square to round? I just bought a 1929 sport coupe, and it has one of each! I'm reasonably sure that can't be correct. My serial number is A1217992.

Thanks, Jeff (back in the Model A family after a 7 year hiatus)

Great looking Sport Coupe.
As per your serial number the car was built on march 16th, 1929.
Square is correct, Round after April 1929
Also the landau iron is on the wrong side, it is upside down.

I have owned my Sport Coupe from 1962.

Thanks very much, 50B. I appreciate the help. Hopefully I can switch the landau bars without damaging anything.

I'd like to post more photos to catch other details that need to be corrected. Here's one from the other side.

Jeff

Nice looking Sport Coupe.
Many people don't do the rear bumpers correctly. The inside end with the rivets should be painted black to a point about an inch and a half past the first curve. That would be about midway between the first and second curve.

Yes, the landau bars need to be switched side-for-side. The passenger side should look like a "S" and the driver side a backward "S" - the fake center knobs should be toward the rear of the car. On my 30 Sporty, the bars could be removed by just unscrewing the end knobs - 29 probably is the same.

Nice car - course the whitewalls aren't correct, but I like 'em!

If the bars are original, there's a nut on each side. Quick job.

Our Sport Coupe was made June 18, 1929, round step plates.

We also have white walls, and oil pressure gauge. Otherwise stock from factory.

Your car looks really great. We like Sport Coupes, have had a two of them.
