Default Ford Running Board Tool Chest

How were the running board tool chests attached back in the day?

Thanks,
Paul

Not Velcro for sure but that is what I would use. I see holes in some the running boards, and have holes in some old tool boxes so I think they were bolted onto the boards.

Model T's are a bumpy ride. I suggest you use carriage bolts to securely fasten them to the running boards. You will probably put tools, oil, small parts, and rags in them. There will be too much weight to be held with Velcro. John

You need not drill any new holes in the running board. Position the box over the existing running board bolts (two of them) and drill up from below to locate the holes accurately to the box when you are happy with the position. Use large area washers under the bolt heads to spread out the load.

We are so protective of our vintage cars. I wonder if the old farmer who bought a new car even thought twice about drilling or even scuffing up their new shiny running boards.

I have a fair number of running board accessories I switch out from time to time; trunks, service sets, dog palace, tool boxes, etc. I've tried to strategically place holes I drill in the running board for attachment, but I think you do need to fasten things down with carriage bolts. I do put a little bit of paint on the edge of each hole to prevent rust and its pretty hard to tell they're there unless you really look.
