GAV knob proper orientation
Does it make a difference where the knob is positioned on say when it is closed? Picture shows mine on closure because I figured that is where the raised segment is shown in my owners manual.I did a search and one Fordbarner says this should be the position when it is running warmed up and normal as it is sort of a counter weight and stays in that straight down position.

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
Use the knob where bit runs the best. The rod only fits one way.

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
Its a reproduction rod and knob and the knob screws onto the rod.I know where it will run good at I just wondered if there was a certain place to Loctite the knob to rod and where the "fin" or whatever it is called should be shut off. Straight down? Not judging or anything just where they were new.

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
It doesn't really where the "fin" is located. Check where it is in the closed position and adjust it from there where it runs the best. I think that each car runs a little differently. Mine is in the same position as yours when in the shut condition. I run it about 1/4 open when warmed up.

This maybe a sign of a worn carburetor or bad seat. |

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
I doubt the knob was ever orientated to the shaft during manufacturing.

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
I would set the knob at the 12 O'clock rotation when the GAV is closed and locktite it.

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
Short answer is no, all cars are different. Set it by closing it and feel for that, then back it off to the relative position you want from there. For instance 1/4 turn open.

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
No right position for adjusting! adjust so car runs the best! There are approximations for a place to start but after that, ya gotta fiddle a bit.

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
Mine closed is at 4 o'clock. Run about 1:30.
But that is with a Tillotson X. Another carburetor would be completely different. Joe K

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
Thanks for all the answers some understood what I was asking not how to adjust carburetor.I think it was a legitimate question, obviously the fin on the knob is meant to be an indicator,I just wanted to know where to place it on the rod itself before loctiting. There is three pictures of it in my original manual one is on the carburetor page and every illustration shows the fin straight down so assuming that is shut off and starting point that is where I will place it, ON THE ROD.

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
If you have an 1928- early 1931 you are right
But if you have a late 1931 it is the other way around. Left Picture 1928-1931 Right picture late 1931 :-)) .. |

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
The knob has no starting position. The fin is for leverage. Believe it or not. Put it wherever you want it.

Re: GAV knob proper orientation
Curtis, mine is closed at 1 o'clock as well, but really I don't think it matters much.
