Body Mounting Pads 1937 1938 1939 open car & 1940 1941 Station Wagon Sedan Delivery
Looking for Body Mounting Pads 1937 1938 1939 open cars and additional years 1940 1941 Station Wagon and Sedan Delivery, OEM part number 78-5084 78-5085 78-5086 78-5087, formerly reproduced by Roy N./Ford Bolts. “Special rubber impregnated” pads. Not available from Drake nor Carpenter. An available set would be used to have more reproductions made as these apply to many models.

Since Third Gen has re-opened Fordbolts -- why not check with them?
The catalog still shows that they may have them. |

Body mounting pad kits are available from C&G (800) 266-0470. For 3740 order 78-5001, $45. There is no listing for wagons or sedan delivery. I use the tapered wood shims used in installing building doors. Like the "real" shims, they are wood. The taper between the shims allows adjustment to fit as you progress. Pay particular attention to the door/body gaps. Over the years most vehicle frames have shifted, so the kits may not always fit the gap

Bruce the catalog does show them but like many things, there were none there and no samples or notes on them. |

I don't believe 37 Ford cabriolets had body mount pads as the body is not rigid enough to stay in shape. They had anti-squeak strips along the frame. Then you shim to make things fit.

These pads were fairly thick - perhaps a full 1/8" They seemed to be similar, but not identical the authentic woven material used for the spring to frame pads. These body pads were saturated in some type of chemical - I am not certain what exactly. The pads Roy sold were not rubber impregnated as far as I could tell. However, it's possible I simply couldn't tell... They (pads) were screwed in to the outriggers on each side of the frame with raven (S2) finish flat head, self tapping screws - I don't recall the size. If one looks closely at those outriggers, one will notice the small holes specifically for that purpose. Roy did sell these at one time. I know, as I'd purchased a few sets from him. I think these could (for practical purposes) be easily reproduced in one's garage. I'd suggest doubling up on the spring pads and cutting any required clearance holes for body mount bolts.

C&G basically only carries what Drake and Carpenter have and is a pretty poor source for anything. Better to stick with Drake or Carpenter. |
