Help locating a Bob Drake tilt out windshield seal
Called Drakes and out of stock. Is the 37 Ford Tudor Slant Back tilt out seal that Drake makes the best? They said the make their own off shore and don't sell those made by other vendors. Has anyone used Steele or Carpenter seals? The part number Drake gave me is 78-701290 at $50.

I find it hard to believe that Bob Drake is out of something. DD

At least Drake told you they don't have it. Maybe one of their dealers has one. I got mine from C&G.

C&G adds BD to the Drake part number (78-701290-BD) buts says that the part is temporarily discontinued.

Drake's suggested calling Early Ford Parts in San Dimas, Ca. as they might have one on the shelf. Called them and they did. It's on the way.

I've tried the Dennis Carpenter one and they don't push far enough into the windshield and too much sticks out. The leg on theirs is only about 5/16" deep and should be about 7/16. The solid piece then hits the frame and pushes the seal too far out into the opening. |

Re: Help locating a Bob Drake tilt out windshield seal
I've used Drake's & Carpenter's seal. I didn't like the fit. I found the seal from Steele Rubber far superior to the others. Just my opinion.

Re: Help locating a Bob Drake tilt out windshield seal
I emailed Steele Rubber about their windshield seal. I don't know how to explain a better fit for some people other than some runs of the seal might be better than others. This is their reply:
Hi, We received your request concerning our pt# 20-2203-50. This is an outsourced part that we purchase from Dennis Carpenter Ford Reproduction Part. Please let me know if I can help you with this or any other parts. Thank you, Terri Caldwell [email protected] (800) 544-8665 Ext 217 " |

I'm sure this is true. It was commonly-known for years that STEELE did not produce ANY rubber stuff for Fords. DD
