I've ordered a new coil resistor to replace that as some testing has indicated that may be the problem. We'll see. The problem no longer seems to be altitude related or even heat related. It's just one of those weird random things.

It is hard to believe that raising the hood a crack would have anything to do with a coil resister problem. I would at least try removing the air cleaner to see if the air flow may have some effect especially since you are not running an original type carb. I tried a modern type air cleaner element on my Stromberg 97 and it caused it to run too rich. Just a suggestion.
