39 Deluxe coupe seat springs.
Would anyone happen to have some pictures of the 39 Deluxe coupe bottom seat springs without upholstery? Just the springs. Thanks

Re: 39 Deluxe coupe seat springs.
Here's what the original DeLuxe 1940 bench seat coupe springs look like prior to installing LeBarron Bonney kit in 1988. I assume '39 is the same. Back then, the entire interior coupe kit including seat, headliner, visors and all panels cost about $500. My wife also sewed up new burlap spring bags.
Hope this helps. Last edited by 19Fordy; 03-24-2023 at 12:21 PM. |

Re: 39 Deluxe coupe seat springs.
That center "HOOP LOOP" does seem odd but, it does look like it belongs there.
Do those U-shaped metal hoops attached to it move inward towards the back of the seat? Or, is that the back of the seat, not the front? |

Re: 39 Deluxe coupe seat springs.
It’s the front. Looks factory so I’m guessing the burlap will get pulled over it then hog ringed to the bottom rail. This belongs to a friend that bought a probably one of the last Lebaron Bonney kits and hired a local so called expert to cover the seat. He stuffed it full of foam and glued everything, what a mess. The seat was so firm that it was hard to just get underneath the steering wheel. I’m 5’10” and if I sit up straight my head would push against the headliner. Couldn’t even see out the windshield without ducking down. Here’s a picture of all the foam I removed from just the lower cushion. Back rest is the same way. It’s way too thick.

Gee, that foam filling technique is a surprise as LeBarron Bonney supplied all the proper "stuffing" materials required to reupholster the seat when you bought a kit. Looks like someone cut corners.

Looks like the installer was stuffing all the coils with foam.

Re: 39 Deluxe coupe seat springs.
He did and it had absolutely no give at all. I’m not a tall person but I had to duck down to even see out the windshield. It’s awful. I’m going to start from scratch with new burlap and cotton then reinstall the cover. The seat tracks were all frozen up but I got all that cleaned up and working. The wood for the backrest is falling apart so I’ll rebuild that when I get to the backrest. It’s just terrible that he paid someone good money for all this crap.
