Default gas gauge inner nut

I have a 1930 and was wondering about sight glass nut, the one I have is a hex nut but only see ones with 8 sides and don't look right. any one know what I have? thanks for any input, mike

Just looked at some spare gas gauges and all of them are the 8 sided/star type. Could you post a photo of what you have?

looks like a 8 sided one except it is a hex, I was going to take both inner and outer nuts to get re chromed. I got his tank and fuel gauge back in the 60s out of a junk yard. any place to get an original inner nut? thanks

If the one you describe looks like the one in my picture, no one seems to know much. I have only ever seen this nut used on the mailtruck that were manufactured into 1932 after normal production run ended. This is the one on my unrestored ‘31 mail truck

I had this same hex nut on my November 1930 Town Sedan.
