Default clutch/brake shaft help

I was hoping to get a few opinions regarding my very loose clutch/brake shaft. This was a car I recently purchased and noticed the shaft has up to 3/8" end play in all directions. I know that I will need to replace it, but I was wondering what you all thought might be the cause of it. Loose pin? Worn housing? Thx ahead of time.

Are you saying the shaft is loose where it fits the bell housing? Actually maybe I should back up. Are you talking about the shaft the pedals ride on?

If you are, any play means something is very wrong. The pedal shaft should be a very tight fit in the bell housing.

If the hole in the bell housing is worn out of round the easiest fix is to install a new shaft and tack weld it to the housing,if the hole for the pin is elongated replace the pin and tack weld it to the housing, otherwise you would have to replace the housing which is a big job.
