dissy removal from a 39pickup (85 HP)
I need to remove the dissy for tune-up. Both bails are loose as are the closest spark plug wire tube mounts. One end of the dissy baculite cap is loose the other isn't. What I do?

Helmet type?
CAREFULLY tap the cap out by inserting something through from the side that is open. A wooden dowel or similar. (If I've understood you correctly). |

Mart is correct, these old caps stick very easily, soybean plastic seems to "grow". when you do get it separated just sand around the edge of the cap to a slightly loose fit.

Thanks. Feels like to center hub is hanging up. I've loosened the wire tubes. Now I'm fighting the driver's side bolt

I remove the coil and use the wood handle of a small wire
brush to gently tap the caps off. G.M.

Once free, turn it 90 degrees and it'll come out pretty quick with coil also. pop any stuck things with a rubber mallet or piece of wood. (something soft) . |

Re: dissy removal from a 39pickup (85 HP)
Cliff Green came over today and we removed the dissy. Removing the driver's side hood piece helped. Both wire end pieces were stuck fast as was one round end cover. Removing the wire harness tube on the passenger side was nearly impossible as the mounting bolt head were very close to the head and carb mount.. ( the 40 engine extended the tube and solved the issue.)
We found that the rotor tips and dissy tips were burn t black and oily. I'm a fan of frequent oiling. I'm corrected to oil the dissy only when changing engine oil. We think the burnt debris may have blocked the spark. thanks Cliff |

Cliff cleans the dissy. install on Friday.
I'm told a couple of drops per oil change. That is a lesson for me. Where is it printed? |

41 Lubrication Chart says every 1000 miles which is what it also list for the engine oil change.

Re: dissy removal from a 39pickup (85 HP)
Unless you drive a lot it is most likely under 1,000 miles.
