Identify Valve Lap Tool
I have an old valve lapper. It is a crank handle style similar to a speed wrench. The valve end is swivel fork with two small nipples that engage holes in the valve. My guess is its from the 1920's.
The tool is rusted and the identification is hard to read. The no is 608 but no manufactuer name. There is a symbol M in a diamond which is probably the manufactuer trademark stamp. The tool is in nice condition except for some rust spots. Can anyone suggest who made the tool? |

Re: Identify Valve Lap Tool
Do those locate in holes in the valve? Never had the head off a T. It does look like it may grip the valve edge?

Re: Identify Valve Lap Tool
The Ebay crank handle tool is similar to mine. The valve end is almost identical.
I believe the valve end prongs engage in two holes in the valve. I guess a lot of engines were made with this kind of valve to enable hand lapping. I did a quick search on the trademark and it may be Frank Mossberg tools who later became Blackhawk tools but I can't find the number in any site I looked at. |

Re: Identify Valve Lap Tool
If you want to keep the tool around, soaking it for a day or so in EvapoRust will do wonders with it.

Re: Identify Valve Lap Tool
I have an old hand crank valve lapping tool and it came with several different attachments for different valve tops. These were mainly for small engines like mowers and different farm equipment and tractors.

I've got a pneumatic one. Oscillates back and forth at high speed. Doubles as a marital aid.

Re: Identify Valve Lap Tool
As Jseery mentioned, small engines like Briggs & Stratton have valves with 2 holes just for that purpose. Maybe Model T?
