Re: curise o matic
YES! And the linkage needs to be adjusted in accordance with the transmission shop manual. If it is not, properly adjusted, internal damage could result

Re: curise o matic
There is no need to have a kick down linkage to make the transmission shift normally. The kick down linkage causes a forced downshift to 2nd (intermediate) gear. A properly adjustment of the shift linkage, good modulator hooked up to manifold vacuum and the transmission should shift properly in all gears providing the trans and valve body operate correctly. If this were an AOD transmission, the throttle valve cable or link Must be adjusted correctly or you can destroy the transmission in as little as 50 miles by not allowing line pressure to increase as road speed increases. With a 429, you have a Simpson design C6 transmission. The Chrysler version of the Simpson design ( 727 & 904) shifts very well and has no kick down linkage. It is nice to have the kick down but you can always manually shift to second if none is there. Keep in mind that the governor will cause a forced up shift to 3rd at speeds over 55 or so.

Re: curise o matic
A kick down is not needed for a C6 to shift properly. The kick down on that transmission and all other Simpson design, save a few exceptions, gives a forced downshift to 2nd gear overriding 3rd gear. It will shift back to 3rd by either reducing throttle pressure or exceeding 55 mph when the governor will cause a forced up shift back to 3rd gear. Assuming that the shift linkage is in good condition and adjusted properly, and the vacuum modulator operating correctly on a good transmission, normal shifting should be fine. With no kick down linkage, "passing gear" is achieved by manually shifting the transmission into the second gear position. The kick down feature is a convenience, not a necessity. On an AOD type transmission, the rod or cable that resembles a kick down linkage is critical to proper operation. If that is not set correctly, you can destroy the transmission in as little as 50 miles because that linkage moves with the throttle and increases transmission line pressure as road speed increases. Not enough pressure and everything slips inside and cooks itself. I used to work on Fords in dealers and later taught automatic transmissions. My students hated me because I went over operations so many times they visualized everything in their sleep! But, they couldn't argue that they weren't given the opportunity to learn.

Re: curise o matic
Ford made lots of different shaped kickdown rods for various models, trucks, vans etc.. Have cut and added length to them before.
