Running board rubber install

1938 Ford. I glued the rubber covers to the top of the board and that went well. The rubber makes a 90 degree to fit over the rear edge. Where the board will be bolted to the rear fender. To match the rubber to the board creates a fold of rubber. I'm interested to know how other have dealt with this. Seems some rubber needs to be removed.

Start with a straight line vertical cut. Then fold the pieces so they overlap. Then you can make a series of little cuts to remove the over lapped rubber so it lays flat. Hold with contact cement.
Try with a paper pattern first.

Yep, time to slice and dice! We do door seals on truck body’s at work, and also run a small bead of matching color silicone rubber after cutting. Helps hold it together and hides the seam.
