Question CCPU door latch rod spring

on a 30/31 pickup door, how does one get the tiny circular spring on the door latch rod ? I cannot get the spring over either end of the rod because of the tab that crosses the diameter on one side. I figure there must be some trick to doing it easily without bending the spring every which way.

The same problem would occur on a coupe or tudor.

Thanks again in advance

I've done it on a couple doors for a 1930 AA, and as you say the part that crosses the center of the end of the spring just needs to be forced to the side. It was about 8 years ago, but I think I used a short needle nose plier to handle it and force it over the spring end. I still need to install the one on my 29 Tudor. Now, where did I lay that spring 10 years ago?
