Your input/thoughts appreciated
Truck 52 F1, is a daily driver. All stock and I’ve put on a few hundred miles since replacing the rear oil seal. There is no leak.😁
While driving I heard a fairly loud tapping noise. As I slowed the noise slowed. I pushed in clutch noise still there. I stopped truck and noise disappeared. Reved engine stopped, no tapping. Put back in gear and tapping was gone. Truck shifted fine there after and no noise. Seems like whatever it is only is heard when moving - in gear or with clutch in. This was a few days ago and no repeat yet Note: around a thousand miles (or more) ago, I had tranny professionally rebuilt. Installed new clutch and throw out bearing.

Could be drive shaft related.

Crawl under the truck and look for any loose parts, cables, sheet metal, exhaust, mufflers
etc. |

Thanks, I did do that. I didn’t see anything apparent. Yoke on both sides of drive shaft look right/tight. I agree Merc, the symptom (only when moving) and sound (tapping) like it would be the drive shaft. But I can see nothing apparent.
Had truck out yesterday and no tapping. I’ll be taking it out today. I’ll listen.

The other day my son and I chased a noise in my van I was taking to Florida after test drives and crawling around under it found it was a stick caught under it. Sounded like a tire was going! Your problem might be something like that. Dale

Did you have the wheel off because I have forgotten to tighten a lug nut before and had it rattle in the cap.

I’ve had a trim ring/hubcap make a snapping noise while going slow. A dry u-joint can be tight but make a noise .....if the noise returns......you could put it on some sturdy jack stands and and try rotating the wheels, maybe let it idle in gear and see if you can locate it..... Mark

I guess the point is don't rule out something simple as the source of a noise. |

Re: Your input/thoughts appreciated
All good suggestions and thoughts, I’ll keep them in mind if it happens again.
It sounded like towards front of drive shaft area.
