I just replaced the steering wheel on my '40. I purchased from Drake; however, it is a Vintique wheel! I will say it is a very nice wheel, shiny black. It seem a shame to have to sand to paint to '40 two-tone. I called Carpenter and found out their wheels are also Vintique. My guess is this is an item that they have decided to 'work together' on. The problem I had was when it was tightened on the column there was 'a drag'. What I did to correct was use a Dremel tool to grind down the outer column where it comes into the steering column head. The issue is that an original wheel has an 1/8" 'step down about an inch from the wheel center which provides the clearance needed when tightened; the Vintage wheel does not. I hope this makes sense. I have since refurbished my original wheel which is what I should have done in the first place.

Great info. Now I have a 48 Ford car and a steering wheel from Lecarra with an adapter for a taper key shaft for the factory column. Will not fit. Looks like my shaft is to short for it. Factory wheel fit great. I have photos, but don't know how to attach them. Any help would be great

This is a little off subject, but I have a 41 Ford truck and I'm wondering what years of stock steering wheels will fit my truck? It has a tapered and keyed mounting. Thanks.

Any Ford wheel from 32-48 will fit your truck. I think a Model A wheel may fit also,

Other wheels may fit, but some might not match or blend with the shape at the top of the mast.

I can't believe nobody has said this yet, but nice original wheels can still be found for around $200. Why go reproduction?

I have a commercial 4 spoke wheel that is in great shape. It came out of a 45 firetruck with 8220 miles. It is 18" dia so I wonder if the 1/2T or car wheel is smaller?

Winner, for sure! Only Jim (19Fordy) and a couple of other millionaires can afford one of these exquisite, multi-thousand-dollar steering wheels for a '40. He DOES have good taste, though! DD

Kaiser Darin Roadster has this one with a somewhat similar center treatment. DD

Like TJ, I think the stock wheel looks best, like it belongs there.
