Default Steering wheel cleaning

The bride and I went to lunch in Livermore yesterday. Pretty hot out there so after we had a look at the 118 year old light bulb, we push started a members car and headed home. Now I was hot and we were on back roads so I pulled off the shirt and now was in T shirt and Levis. When I got out of the car at home I ended up a bit trapped, as usual, getting out and my back rubbed against the steering wheel with a bit of pressure. T shirt looked like I had been scooting around the garage floor in it. I took a paper towel and windex and cleaned the seat, towel was clean, wet it again with the windex and rubbed once over the steering wheel. Wow, is that a nasty black mess. I gather the rubber is rubbing off when I exit the car. So how can I seal it so that quits happening? Going to the Nugget soon so don't want to pull the wheel and paint it. Any suggestions other than a coat of duct tape? I do have a roll of a bright orange.

Thanks in advance!
Dirty back Dave, as Bill W. might say.

Keep cleaning with windex until it stops taking black off, then wax it. Or some other cleaner, simple green etc.

I laced a black leather cover on mine, not the wrap around junk from Walmart but a good leather cover that laces to the inside. It was not cheap but looks good, feels good and keeps everything clean.

Alcohol- not the drinking kind- the cleaning kind. A few cleanings and the black is off the wheel and on the paper towel. I have tried to wax it or Lemon Pledge it after the good cleaning but now just the alcohol.

Wheel stuff is soybean. My wheel came from a roadster in a junk yard. The sun baked all the oil out of the soy. Wear gloves?
