Default Secret to rear back plates?

I'm having a difficult time removing the rear backplates from my '30 coupe. The brake rods are off and the four bolts thru the backplate are off. Is there a special way the actuator arms should be positioned to allow them to pass thru the radius rod and allow the backplate to be removed? Do I just need a bigger hammer?

no... go up front and remove the bolt in the rear radius rods and remove the rods when you finish your repair leave the radius rods off until your backing plate are back on.

Thanks for the advice, that would be easier. I managed to get them off without removing the radius rods once I held my tongue just right.

If the drums are off, push the service brake lever all the way forward until it locks. You can then worry it out from between the "Y" of the radius rod.

Thanks Tom. I've been stalking this site for two years now and knew someone would have the answers. Can't believe the wealth of info that all you folks have. Experience counts for everything I guess.
