Default Model A U Joint repair

I would like to repair my A U Joint but am not sure how to get the old U Joint apart, I looked at the repair kit parts, any one know the best way to do this? Thanks for any help.

most u-joints are still good, most likely better than modern reproductions

if any of the bushings have been rotating in the 2 housings it most likely not rebuildable--the bushing has lost it's fit and is loose

the instructions say drive a cape chisel under the clip and pry it out ----cutting with cutoff wheel and pulling out the pieces works too---a little cut next to the clip helps get under the clip for removal if you have to save the clips

the side to side movement is part of the design and is needed

While setting at my bench staring at the u joint in the vice I did just as you said, using cut off wheel to cut clip. The cups were tight. Thanks for the advice. There are a lot of parts suppliers out there, any recommendations for quality parts?

The replacement U Joint I installed needed the splines slightly touched with a dremel, everything was fine after that.
Thanks, Ron
