Default Is 6 amps a good charge rate for 12v system?

I know 6 amps is a recommended charge rate for a 6 volt battery, but is it also good for a 12 volt battery?

Are you talking about an external battery charger of some sort?

I mean the adjustable brush setting for the generator. I'm running a generator with a 12 volt battery and a diode cutout.

if your battery uses water the charge rate is too high, if the batterys state of charge gets lower and lower the charge rate is too low

I use a fun projects voltage regulator. I first set the charge level by adjusting the 3rd brush for 14 amps at cruising RPMs, then installed the regulator. Has worked very well for 5 years now. If I run the lights on high beam the charge is about zero, maybe a little discharge when lower RPMs, low beam an amp or two charge, no lights on it charges about 10 amps when first started then tapers down to an amp or two charge rate.
