Default spare tire mount

Is there a backing plate behind the sheetmetal where the spare tire mounting bracket bolts to the back of a coupe? noticed today the metal is cracking around the top bolt. Thanks, Keith T.

Keith T.
What kind of car do you have? 28/29 coupes use a 7 1/2" tall panel, thus a shorter vertical support. 28/29 roadsters and all 30/31 coupes and roadsters used the part Don posted a picture of. I happen to have an original shorter vertical support used on a 28/29 coupe.

Don,

As you well know, this part is a part that helps in the structure of the body also. Am wondering why it was removed just to put in sidemount spares?

Interesting.
