Default Dome Light Repairs

Does anyone have any recommendations about the best way to secure the outside dome light trim cover to the inner retainer/clip? On my '29 Town Sedan project, I have replated the outside trim piece, but the inner retainer that holds the lens in place appears to have been originally soldered to the outer trim on the underside. My concern is the aspect of heat discoloring the plating that shows on the outside piece. What are some thoughts about drilling a couple of extra small holes in the retainer surface to allow some additional "bite" and then using something like J B Weld to "glue" the pieces together? Other ideas? Also, does anyone have any recommendations as to a replacement light socket?

Thanks to all for your thoughts and suggestions --

Dick

I resoldered the original nickel plated outer trim piece to the inner bracket on my '29 T S and didn't have any trouble with discoloration. This was on an original dome lamp in excellent condition and reuasable as is.
Not sure if the amount of heat that the soldering gun generates would harm a newly chrome plated piece though. Maybe try applying heat with your soldering gun to another plated part that isn't to be reused to see how it reacts.
Or just try a couple of spots of J B Weld and see if that'll work. Nothing lost if it doesn't hold!
