Default Oldest MODEL A "drivers"

I'm talking about the Ages of the "regular drivers" of Model A's. Often the car iself is referred to as a "driver", but since I joined this site, I have come to realize just how young I am compared to some of the regular operators of these Model A's. And I was born in the 30's.

About a year ago, a young'n, Senior Member Jamie Crosson, did a Poll of the ages of members on this site. Lots of response and a very interesting subject. However my question would relate to the age of the regular operator of the Model A. This would be the Fella or Lady who drives their Model A either daily or whenever the weather permits. I'm not talking about letting your Father-In-Law taken ol' Bessie for a drive down the road.

I have a friend who is about 83. He and his wife take their Model T out for a drive every week or so and they often do a 50 miler. He also still gets under his cars and to perform his own repairs. That's what I'm talkin' about...

So, how Old are the Elders in this hobby...???

We have a gentleman in our club that is 97. Up until about a two years ago he drove his car regularly. Unfortunately he has had to give up driving it. He still rides in the car whenever he can get someone to drive it.

I am 33 and I am the sole driver of my A, I let my dad drive it once. My wife does not want to drive it because she is worried of getting in an accident.

We have a member of the Fox Valley Region, MARC who will be 90 this August. He not only drives his Model A's he still crawls under them to work on them. He is an amazing man who served on board the air craft carrier Hornet during the Doolittle raid on Tokyo.

I'm 76 and keep my A's going all year except for when the roads are wet and salty. The Special coupe has a heater but the roadster doesn't so I drive the coupe more often in the winter months. No "storage" for these A's.

75 and counting. Started in an A at 15. I've heard that time spent drivin' your A actually takes time off of your clock......could I actually be 80? Gar Williams

I'm 78 in ten days (Please, no gifts under $10,000) and I'm still driving two A's. Just had to renew my license. The state thinks I should start wearing glasses. I do if I think about it.

There was a fellow that was 93 as I recall on the last Glidden Tour. He drove the tour in his Model A. I have the video of the tour and I know he is on it.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Now I can take this information to the "Hi & Lie Coffee Shoppe" (MacDonalds) and have fun with it. (fellas say "HI" and the sit around and "LIE" to each other.....

Welcome to the site Young Fella. Staying on this site will be like a 4 year College Program on Model A 101.

I would put my dad in this catagory. He's 90, has restore 14 Model As. He and I just finished building a 1931 pickup and are starting on a 1931 speedster.
