woodrow that isn't acceptable. You should be knocking down 20MPG without too much effort. Our '29 Tudor got that all day long.

My suggestion---- call Bert's in Denver and get one of their professionally rebuilt Zenith carbs with properly flow rated jets. Of course double check your timing, points, etc. but when it comes to carbs a really well done Zenith is hard to top. Unless you are lucky enough to score a Marvel carb but they are a Zenith design anyway!

Let us know what you find out.

to 1929: The K&N numbers for the air maze are E-3050, E-9257 and E-2040. The difference is the height of the filters. The search option is a little tricky on the site, but search and read about the opinions of using an air filter. Seems some agree the K&N's flow as to not needing to "air balance" the Zenith's for our cars. My engine ran better w/o a filter. Its being rebuilt now and I am going to run a oil filter and K&N on the engine when its completed. I was getting 15 mpg on the well used engine B4 I pulled it.

I also have a heavier Town Sedan, and live in S. California, where driving with an "egg under the gas pedal" just won't work, so I usually drive briskly. On tours, running 60 mph ( with a Mitchell OD), I usually get about 22 mpg. Driving just in town, with lots of brisk stop and go driving, I get more like 14, and I also have a professionally rebuilt Zenith carb.

Check the suppliers, several list filter set ups that are NOT TOO restrictive.
I've read that with the common paper filters, you need 100 square inches of surface area, for a 200 Cubic Inch engine.
ANY ENGINE NEEDS AN AIR FILTER! For example: Just look at the crap you blow out of your NOSE!

thanks for the numbers Vic. That's a good example Bill, and we are not close to the ground like the engine.

Those UGLY nose hairs are STANDARD EQUIPMENT Not to mention, that as I get OLDER, I now have to shave the hairs on TOP of my NOSE
"MAYBE" sumbody could invent a HAIR-AIR FILTER for CARS?? With a blow back feature, to clean itself.
