1934 Ford Driveshaft Pin Installation
How do you secure the pin in the driveshaft on a 34 Rearend. The rear end was an original and two, very worn short pins came out when I broke it down. only replacements I see are long pins, but I don't see how you secure them. Do you use a mallet and mushroom one end, or is there some trick or part I'm missing. Here is a link to the pin I'm using.

They are mild steel, if the pin is too long cut it to the length you need. Support the area under the pin (so as not to do any damage to bearings) and you can hammer the end even using center punches to mushroom it out, or use a 1/4-20 grade 8 long bolt (no threads in the coupler) and install a lock nut. Do make sure the U-joint is lubed properly so the shaft can slide in and out.

Re: 1934 Ford Driveshaft Pin Installation
There may be a very good reason why that pin was in pieces, and before you put another in place by peening the one end, make sure you know why the original failed. What I found on my '35 fordor, when that pin had failed, was excessive wear of the splines of both the pinion and the female coupling welded into the end of the drive shaft. Your failure could have been caused by a similar wear situation, or possibly something else has gone wrong. IMHO, I would suggest checking things over very carefully to find out what caused the original failure before putting a new pin in place and putting everything back together.
