I want to adjust the clutch rod clevis, I have more than 2 in play and want to tighten it.
Looking under my car, it seems the clevis is under the brake pedal? Is there another clevis? or is this the one?

The clevis is connected to the clutch arm of the transmission.That is the only one.Pull the pin then lift it up and unscrew to adjust the play.

I was able to get the cotter pin off and was able to slip the pin out but now how do I get move the clutch level out of the clevis so that I can shorten it. It there enough play in the clutch lever so that I can slip it off the clevis?

Can the clevis be pulled upwards to free it from the clutch arm?

If you shorten it, you will increase the amount of free travel.

The radius to the clutch pedal is maybe ten inches. The radius to the clevis pin is maybe 1.5 inches. To take out 1" of excess free play, lengthen the clevis rod by 1" x 1.5" / 10" = .15", ball park. I would unscrew the clevis two full turns and check it. When checking the free play adjustment, be sure to do it with the floor board down tight, as the floor board is what stops the pedal return. You can run out of adjustment if things are badly worn, in which case buy a new clevis and both pins. Available and cheap.

You do not need to remove the other pin.That other pin also has (or should have)the return spring connected to it. Just lift up the clevis and "unscrew it " to take out some of the play.

I get it.I had a similar problem and my young friend went over the fender to pull the cotter pin and push the clevis pin out to re-adjust it. A little tighter space wise with the V8.Your 4 Cyl will be more forgiving.

Does the lever arm move far enough to clear the clevis? I will have to move the lever arm 1-2 inches forward to clear the clevis. Much resistance.

You are not going to move the clutch arm by hand. Think of the leg pressure it requires, and that is with a lot of leverage!

well said....any ideas how to move it? is there a factory procedure to slide the clevis off? The original service bullitin just says remove it and adjust.

Should just move up without to much effort.

Just lift it off,simple as that.Then you can move the trans clutch arm by hand until the throw out bearing prevents it from going any further.You might want to have a helper grasp the clutch pedal from inside so its easier to reconnect the clevis after you have taken some of the play out.It might take several attempts to get the adjustment just right.

can't get it off. Thinking of taking the floor off, but not sure that would work because the clevis seems to be beyond the basic floor plate. I would most likely have to remove the forward firewall floor plate?

Have you tried a soft bar (like alum or brass) and a hammer? It just sets on there loose, it has to be fairly loose or it could not pivot in use.

the clevis moves but the lever arm needs to be pushed forward so that I can slide the clevis off. without the floor/firewall floor plate the clevis would slide right off.
