40 Wagon Scuff Plates

I was wondering if anyone with a 39-41 wagon has replaced their under door scuff plates. I see the other body styles are available so I was wondering if anyone has tried the 4 door sedan pieces. Sure they would need some trimming, but would they work on the wagon? Or
what else did you use? My originals are in bad shape and beyond repair.

I repaired all the stainless and bought new rubber for my 40 Woodie which were fairly crushed and dented. Pretty screwed up stainless can be repaired/TIG welded and polished. Could probably be made in a bead roller with some ingenuity.

Where did you buy the rubber? Didn't see it in Carpenter or Drake's catalogs.

I bought a beautiful new set for my 40 SW about 10 years ago. They cost $200. back them and they were worth it! They were made by a street rod shop in Portland Oregon. I will see if I can find the name and number for you. 40larry

Keep in mind, 1939 are different than '40.

Nope, 40 is all by itself.
I'd think it fairly easy to modify a pair from a '40 Tudor sedan.

How about a 4dr. sedan? I need all 4. I have seen them reproduced for the 4 dr. too. Are they the same cross section as the wagon ones?

The cross section is the same - the curve is not. That's why id go for the tudor - longer. I would think the longer section would be easier to modify to match the curve of your floor pan.

Perhaps someone with this particular experience might weigh in???

You are getting bad information from some of these messages. The 1940 woody strips are much different from those used on the passenger cars. They attach on the side of the floor pan and are backed up by a steel strap on each of the four doors. A & M Metal Shaping made a perfect set for my car about 10 years ago. I do not know if they are still doing it but their address is 1134 N. Fremont Lane in Cornelius Oregon 97113. The phone number I have is 503-992-1998. Good luck.........40larry

OK. I checked and this phone number is good and he can make up a set for you as he has all the dies and tooling. By the way I got the rubber that goes with them from Bob Drake and he should still have that available....Larry

These are stainless exactly like the originals. When you get them they are polished and ready to install on a show quality woody.....Larry

Larry, I will "stand down" to your advice on this one. I was under the impression that the 40 wagon had a similar sill plate as the rest of the passenger cars.
I have only restored a '39 and knew that was different than a '40.

Like Larry said, I bought my rubber parts from Drake about 4 years ago as those were the last things I did to finish the car.
Hope you can still get them. You may have to call. Their catalog shows 81A-791980 as what would work on a 38-40 wagon. The metal (steel) strip that is on the vertical part of the sill also holds the rubber to the body on my car (which is a very late car) and seems to fit and work properly with the stainless.

Mike, will do when I get home from visiting my son. The Drake rubber which came in a roll you cut to length, had the same profile as the brittle pieces I took off my car.
