Default B Model Flywheel

Hi all, sorry if this question has been asked before. I did a search but couldn't find the answer. Looking for advice regarding fitting a B Model Flywheel to an a stock Model A motor. B Flywheel being lighter by approx. 18 lbs (using bathroom scales when wife was out of the house.)

Questions 1. Can it be fitted successfully.
2. Advantages
3. Disatvantage
All comments welcome. Thank you in advance.

I don't think anything needs to be done to run a B flywheel in stock Model A. I could be wrong. Link below. Rod

Hi Runner,

Ran B flywheel on my A before only because the B ring gear was better than the ring gear on my A flywheel.

Worked fine; but, really could not tell any big difference in pickup or anything else.

For what it is worth, I was told an A Flywheel will NOT fit on a B motor. Back edge contacts the transmission bell. Bob

A 'B' flywheel will interchange on an A engine without modification. My personal thoughts are the better of a Model-A driver you are, the less you will notice the differences between the two. That is because a Model-A/B engine was designed for lower RPMs where spool-up and spool-down are not a prevalent. The advantages & disadvantages of use in today's engine are more in theory than anything.

Rowdy, many thanks for the link. Answers my question.
Chauvin, I'm changing flywheel for similar reason. Also some damage by a clutch plate failure.
Roadster62. It appears you are correct. B will go into A but A will not go into B
Many thanks for your help.
