Front Spring Rubber bushing replacement
Need some hints and help in replacing front bushing rubbers on 47 Ford front spring perch, can this be done one side at a time, by ones self in the garage on jack stands? Want to be safe about it and know it can be a bit of danger involved if not careful.

Re: Front Spring Rubber bushing replacement
I do not have a spring spreader, have several floorjacks and thought maybe I could hole on side of spring in place with one and somehow get the job done.
thx |

Re: Front Spring Rubber bushing replacement
Leave car sitting on its wheels, the bumper is plenty high! Put a block of 2X4 wood under spring end against the eye, jack that up slowly and carefully, remove nuts and adjust altitude of jack until you can feel the shacles get loose.
I would use a screw jack, either a good platform type scissors jack or the sort of post jack that looks about like a hydraulic bottle jack. Screw type will give you slow movement and easy, gentle adjustment. |
