I would much rather drive the A but it always seems to turn to "C" when you get where you're going and park it
People just seem to be amazed that we still drive these old things

I prefer to drive my Model A but occasionally enter it in a show that benefits a good cause, such as the American Cancer Society.

Driving. But I prefer tours. I like the multi day tours where the group stays at a central location, normally some kind of motel or inn, and then goes out as a group to visit different places. I think I like the compadreship and the sharing. The places that we visit are always interesting. It is good to see what others have done to their cars.

Here they charge $15 entry fee per car. People walk in for free!!
Shire I’m going to pay to get in and sit in the sun all day. Ice cream is a better idea

I think I like rebuilding them most, that's not an option but that's my choice. Driving them would be my second choice. I do use the RPU as a truck,it gets plenty of attention when loaded up.

I voted driving but I do attend a few shows as Ruth alluded too. I don't mind the entry fee when it benefits good causes. I think you need to look at the overall picture.

We spend the day with friends from our club, meet new friends and possibly new members, eat a bunch of junk I shouldn't be, get a free T shirt and dash plaque, maybe win a raffle prize, and get to show off the ol' girl and a great reason to get out of the house.

July 10th about ten cars from our club are going to the Relay for Life Car Show. I am looking forward to a great day. May even have some ice cream...

We've owned and restored several pre-WW2 cars including Model A. We sold them when we downsized and I lost interest when I got too old and infirm to drive or work on them. We did show them and some were good enough to win trophies, at least in local shows. But I burnt out on shows pretty quickly. I guess I'm not that competitive because my ego isn't dependent on proving my car is better than everyone else's. So I see no point in paying a fee to sit in the hot sun enduring petty cliquishness while spectators carelessly touch the car and let their brats climb over it, self-proclaimed "experts" nitpick, etc. I don't even bother to go to shows as a spectator anymore.

An old car isn't as comfortable as a modern one for long distance travel, but I enjoyed driving my old ones around town and on short out-of-town trips. Course that usually turned into a one-car show. But for some reason, people are more respectful of a car on the street than they are at a show. In that context, I didn't mind showing them the car, answering their questions, letting them sit in it for pictures, maybe even taking some for rides - let's face it, folks who drive old cars are basically show-offs anyway. Course cars that are driven naturally incur wear and tear and don't stay in top show condition, so I wasn't as picky about them.

Trick question - I can't drive mine.

Generally I like it. I am sure I won't mind driving it but I don't see any reason to spend piles of hours driving it. Just to close places.

I don't ever foresee me being able to put in all of the $ and hours needed to make it reliable enough for me to really feel comfortable.

Never had the urge to compete in show class settings, rather enjoy seeing a nice car that is being used on the street. I have a roadster that belonged to Allen Funt, like me and my car, no one seems to remember him either, but they do smile when I drive up, as the license tells them too. 29 Smile, then ask me whet year Model T it is?All in fun and i have taken it to lots of show but prefer the ones that just happen, where you drive into a parking spot and someone is genuinely interested enough to ask a few questions, then maybe you remind them of another time, another place, their first kiss, or more. Older folks have their own stories and I find them interesting often as not. Older women brag about their experience with rumble seats more than old men. All in all the car is a good conversation piece and a never ending painful joy to own. Now I'm selling it because I am the only one of us that really enjoyes it. My wife likes it, but finds it painful to ride in for more than a few minutes at a time.

I, am not a big SHOW guy I am more of a tour guy with a group, do not pay to show my cars. If we are going 200 miles+ I trailer to the dest and then tour.

I remember fondly the shows of the 60's where we used to get 5 gallons of free gas and two free chicken dinners. My Dad used to say "no more show cars, can't have any fun watching people damage you car".

Saturday morning "Coffee and Cars" gatherings is getting more popular around here. Free car shows, bench racing with friends, no worry about judging your car.

That is the same way I look at Car Shows that benefit a charity. I don't care if I "win". I'm spending the day with friends and it is a fun way to donate to a charity.

We also go to car shows put on by the local High School. Not only does it benefit the PTSA but may attracted some younger folks to our hobby.

I guess it all depends in the way you look at things. If I look at it as just "sitting in the sun all day" I would not do it either.

But like I said earlier, my first choice would be driving my Town Sedan.

I was running errands with my A, came out of store and a 3 or 4 year old girl was sitting on the running board, I froze not wanting to scare her off. When mom got done taking her picture mom asked me if it was my car and the year. It put a smile on my face !!!!
