"Matching" e-brake ratchet and pawl
Thought y'all would get a kick out of this. I disassembled my e-brake handle today and discovered this "matching" ratchet and pawl. Apparently someone in the past needed a pawl and decided he'd just use what he had on hand.

It is common practice to punch out needed parts to complete an assembly from one piece of steel. The center cross member has punch outs for brackets attached to the rear radius rods.

Re: "Matching" e-brake ratchet and pawl
I hadn't seen this particular punch-out combination before, but I suppose it makes sense given the shape of the parts. Here's one vendor who seems to be selling a punched-out ratchet. I went back through the invoices for when this car was restored in the '80s, but I don't see an invoice for the ratchet, so possibly it's quite old (or possibly that invoice is just missing).

KR500, Please correct me if I am wrong...but were not those punched out blanks on the center cross member utillized for the Front Brake Rod Spring Brackets on the frame itself and not the Rear Radius Rods? Thanks. Pluck |
