Default 46 pickup leaf spring bushing removal

I have a 1946 pickup and I m trying to replace the pins and bushings. How do I get the rear pins out. There is a pin w fine threads and a nut. Do I tighten the nut to get it out?

I have a 51 pickup, and I believe that the parts are similar.

You remove the nut and drive the pin out by pounding on the threaded end. eventually, the pin will break loose and pop out the back. Plan on replacing the threaded pins and nuts.

Hope this helps.

The old pins will have grooves worn in them so will want to take the weight of vehicle off the springs so that the pin does not hang up in the hanger when trying to remove. Sometimes the end of the pins can be rusted good in the hanger so may need some heat to free them up.

Heat on the composition around the pin will soften it and make it drive out easier. After the pin is out there will be a steel sleeve left in the spring and in the hanger. Run a hacksaw blade through the eye and saw through the sleeve. This will relieve the tension and make it drive out easier.

Make sure you use a lot of assembly grease putting back together.

42-47 pickup uses all metal parts in the spring eyes, not like the car stuff. Parallel leaves front and back.

I'm genuinely interested in how you come to a 1943 pickup? Is it a half ton? I ask as as far as I've been able to ascertain, half ton pickups like the 1942 cars were only made in the early part of 1942, the bigger stuff was available to special order, if you were worthy. Production then went over to military stuff for the war. Cars and half tons started to be made again in 1945 with revisions to the 42 stuff. So far I've not found any evidence to the contrary, apart from folk saying "I had/have a 1943/44 pickup"

This was a 1943 ton 1/2 fire truck at Neponset naval base in RI. The tin is awesome and I tries to sell it as such, but no bites. I biught a 46 pickup frame and going to move everything onto it and sell it as a pickup.

Just got brake shoe liners from Carpenter, Riveting them on and reassembling the drive train. I need the emergency brake linkage on the right side to complete the installation.

Ah,
Its a 43 Navy base fire truck, that would make it "militarily stuff", rather than being regular civilian 1/2 ton pickup.
Thanks for clarification.
Martin.

That will make it a 46 with a wartime cab. A lot of the war time trucks had the G model 6-cylinder engines in them. I haven't seen many US built war time Ford trucks but the ones I've seen all had the 6-cylinder engines. The civilian ones built in 1945 didn't start to come off the line until mid year 1945 so there aren't many of them and most were larger trucks with either the V8 or the 6.

This truck had a v8. All numbers match. But thats about to change with the 46 frame. So far no luck with the emergency brake linkage. Hopefully someone has them laying around.
