Default Seat help!

Rebuilding my seats on my 1930 Tudor, everything was going well until I got to the drivers seat bottom. Im not sure what to call it, the best I can describe it is chainmail, it's the thin wire that covers the bottom of the seats, mine is falling apart, I searched some online catalogs but came up empty handed.

Does anyone have a source for it or an alternative?

It’s very similar to the spark arresting screen that you would open and close like curtains on old fireplaces. That might be a place to start.

I doubled up burlap, hog ringed to the springs, 20 years ago I asked about the chainmail and no one knew about the chainmail, I was thinking my A was the only one to have it, L 31 Tudor.

I heard a trick from one of the old school upholsterers. Use a piece of thin indoor outdoor carpet on top of the springs. It is not original but spreads the weight load and the seat sits better. I think the concept is the same as the chain mail.

Due to constant flexing, most of that stuff was likely pitched in the trash by trim shops that replaced the cover some time in the past. Snyder's makes seat springs and I haven't seen it offered by them. Any thick and heavy material would be the natural replacement. Burlap is likely what the kit makers supply with their kits. Carpet might be a bit extreme but it's really up to the person that is putting all the stuff on there.

Even if you find a source for the metal stuff, it would still have to have a heavy fabric of some sort on top before the padding is applied. Google metal fabric if you want something same or similar.

I'm sure McMaster Carr would have something like that.
