I use good used Ford bearings. Many new bearings have soft end plates. I had that happen after only 3,000 miles. Hub full of metal particles.

Thanks, I need the seal part numbers for today. May just stay with original bearings. Thanks Ford Barners!

When ordering seals, look for he type with a red outer coating. It make driving the seals easier, and acts as a seal. A customer brought in some uncoated seals, and all collapsed before they were seated. There were no markings on them, so we assume they were made in who-knows-astan.

FYI, Sta-lube drum brake wheel bearing short fiber grease Part # SL3131 is the best grease to use. NAPA has it.

If all else fails, you might try South Side Obsolete ("Barnfind08" on this forum). He has a LOT of miscellaneous NOS parts.

I agree with John. Too many of the repop bearing fail quite quickly due to poor heat treating of the cages.
There are good, albeit used, Ford bearings easily found...

I only wish to set the record straight, not hurt anyone's credibility. Terry, OH... please edit your post as it shows INCORRECT info.

The CORRECT National part# for the 38-48 hub grease seal is 5877 (which has an OD of 2.846").

The National part# listed above for that seal is 416738 (which has an OD of 3.194")

I know this to be 100% true because I just purchased the wrong seals based on this info and my own laziness by not researching the part number dimensions myself. Upon further investigation, I noticed the diameter typo to be the culprit. I harbor no ill feelings nor want anyone upset with me. I just want to provide the correct info for future folks looking for this seal.

The other part #s listed are correct for the OD of 2.846".

The National seal# 5877 can be purchased at O'Reilly's, Autozone, Advance Auto, Rock Auto and even from Amazon.

Virtually all new wheel bearings are made in China now. Timken moved there several years ago as did virtually all several others. If you buy new ones, they are going to come from offshore. No need to go to special part houses since they will also come from China also.

26Tguy: I can not modify my post #6 above but will modify my list of part numbers, so I do not pass on incorrect info in the future. Thank You for your correction.

Because of the search for bearing part numbers i came across
this thread. I have a new juice brake kit now for my A, which contains
two 681225. I installed the first bearing with the grease seal.
After picking up the second bearing, I became hesitant.
The crappy part is a parallelogram with 1,5 mm offset. Now I
have destroyed the grease seal to get to the first wheel
bearing. Instead of 1.5 it is only 1 mm but still the same
drama. After two hours of online research, i finally found the last three wheel bearings J662456 BCA from Bower and bought them through amazon USA. Now they are on the way to germany. I already had the same problem with the bearings of the cluster gear. I have had experience with china scrap for twenty years now, and can already judge the manure by the smell of the china cardboard. Wish a happy new year
