Model BB vin number
So, I have a frame with a vin number BB 3 5072995Y!
What is the 3 indicate, and what is the Y at the end mean? What I have found by the 5072995 that it was produced sometime between 1932 and 1934. Nothing on the 3 or the Y though! The frame is bent but would like to know the facts about it even though I do not plan on using it! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! |

The BB prefix goes to a heavy commercial vehicle, I assume your frame is heavier than a passenger vehicle. The basic serial numbers started with 5000001, I assume to avoid duplicating the Model A numbers. I have never seen the 3 or Y you are asking about. The best source for information on the basic 7 digit number is "The 1932 Ford Book" (see https://shop.efv8.org/collections/fo...tbound-all-new) which says your frame had an engine installed that was built early 1932. You can also find the information here: http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/ABen...rs.htm#C1which places the engine/transmission build at May 1932. When you post also update your profile to include your general location, that may be part of the answer. Charlie Stephens Last edited by Charlie Stephens; 11-18-2019 at 09:12 AM. |
